The Splendour of Powys


Powys today incorporates Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Presteigne and covers the area formerly occupied by the Cornovii and other ancient Celtic tribes.

After the Romans came, these areas were ruled by Powys and Brycheiniog. The huge landscape still lies virtually unspoilt and open, scattered by small hamlets and single dwellings. The remains of hilltop fortresses, and Norman and medieval castles remain on the hilltops. Lake Vyrnwy Sculpture Trail is the largest sculpture trail in Wales, and Lake Vyrnwy itself is a superb bird-watching area with much to do for young and old alike.

The Brecon Beacons also offer ample opportunities for eating al fresco.
