The county
of Herefordshire
is 842 sq miles in area (2,181 sq km), and is located in Western Central
England, on the Welsh border. The county has an hilly terrain, with its
highest peak being in the Black Mountains and Malvern Hills. The main
rivers are the Wye, the Teme, and the Frome.
This largely agricultural county is renowned for its orchard products
and Hereford cattle.
In terms of history, Herefordshire
was the scene of border warfare with the Welsh in the Middle Ages, and
there are many ruins of castles and fortifications, the most remarkable
of which is Offa's Dyke (8th cent.). In 1974, Herefordshire underwent
a fusion with a large part of Worcestershire to form the nonmetropolitan
county of Hereford and Worcester. However in 1998 the counties were again
divided.

has an 11th century cathedral and is otherwise known as a cattle centre.

been used to depict the dance floor where disco and other modern popular
